Earlobe Repair / Gauge Repair

Earlobe repair is a simple, cosmetic ear surgery performed by Dr. Christian Paquet to repair drooping or torn ear lobes, or close a “gauged” earring hole.

Wearing earrings over time often causes the earlobe holes to stretch or become elongated. This makes it more difficult to wear certain earrings, and some may not remain in place. As time goes on, the bottom of the piercing hole may wear through completely and result in an earlobe that is split or torn. In addition, trauma to the earlobes may cause them to split or tear. Over recent years, intentional earlobe “gauging” or stretching also became popular, although many patients now wish to have it reversed.

Regardless of the cause, Dr. Paquet can perform an earlobe reconstruction procedure under local anesthesia in order to tighten an earing hole, repair an earlobe split/tear, or close a stretched or “gauged” earlobe. The overall goal is to restore symmetry to the earlobes, giving them a natural appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question - Who is a good candidate for an earlobe repair?

Any patient with an elongated earlobe, enlarged earring hole, split or torn earlobe, or a “gauged” or stretched earlobe is a good candidate to have an earlobe reconstruction performed.

Question - What should I expect with regards to recovery?

Recovery is very straightforward as the procedure is performed in the office under local anesthesia. You will have sutures in the earlobes that are removed approximately 1 week after the procedure. The discomfort is very minimal. You may return to work immediately after surgery, and begin exercise after 1 week.
