Types of Chin Augmentation

A chin implant is a synthetic device that is placed under the skin to change its shape and size and provide more definition to the jawline. During the chin implant surgery, an incision is made inside the mouth or around the chin, the implant is placed, and the incision is closed. The size of your implant will depend on how much definition you’re looking for.

Dermal Fillers

Looking for a nonsurgical option? Dermal fillers can also add shape and size to your chin. Unlike a chin implant, the results are temporary and typically last up to two years. The dermal fillers are injected directly into the chin and jawline area, requiring no incisions and leaving no scarring.

Before Your Chin Augmentation

Before your chin augmentation, you’ll first want to schedule a consultation with Dr. Paquet. He will review your medical history, address any questions or concerns, ask about your aesthetic goals, and build a customized treatment plan that ensures you receive the results you’re looking for.

We also require you to have a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery. They may also need to take care of you for the first 24 hours. Before your surgery, you’ll also need to avoid smoking, stop taking blood thinners, limit your alcohol intake, and stick to a healthy diet. Dr. Paquet will give you a detailed list of guidelines to follow before and after surgery.

The Chin Augmentation Procedure

Chin augmentations are typically performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made inside the mouth or just below the chin. Through this incision, a pocket is formed on the chin before placing the chin implant directly on the bone. When the implant is properly in place, incisions are then closed with sutures.

After Your Chin Augmentation

After chin implant surgery, patients can return home with a trusted friend, family member, or caregiver who can drive them. Swelling, redness, bruising, and some discomfort are expected. Dr. Paquet will prescribe pain medication for the early stages of the recovery process. As incisions are often made within the mouth, the ability to move the mouth and lips may be limited, requiring patients to follow a liquid diet in some cases. Most patients are ready to return to work, school, or other non-strenuous routines within a week or two after their chin augmentation procedures. Dr. Paquet will monitor your facial implant surgery healing progress during routine post-op appointments and advise when you can safely return to various activities.
