Hyperpigmentation is a common skin concern that affects people of all ages and skin types. While harmless, hyperpigmentation can be frustrating and impact confidence. At Paquet Facial Plastic Surgery, patients can access advanced aesthetic treatments that significantly reduce discoloration and restore a more even, radiant, and overall youthful appearance.
What is Hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces excess melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. This overproduction can be triggered by a variety of factors, including excessive sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, acne, and the natural aging process. Common types of hyperpigmentation include sun spots, age spots, liver spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left behind after acne or skin injuries. It often appears as darkened patches or spots on the skin and can develop on the face, neck, hands, or other areas frequently exposed to the sun.
REAL PATIENT REVIEW
“Took my 83-year-old Mama in for a consult, and left with a solution and knowledge! Dr. Paquet was efficient, and personable and the staff was great. I almost wish I had made an appointment for myself for my deviated septum! Highly recommended and totally satisfied with the experience.”

Treatment options will vary depending on the patient’s skin type and specific skin conditions being treated. We offer the following non-surgical hyperpigmentation treatments at Paquet Facial Plastic Surgery:
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing targets excess pigment deep within the skin while stimulating collagen production. This treatment helps break up dark spots, improve overall skin tone, and enhance texture. It is especially effective for sun damage and stubborn pigmentation that does not respond to topical treatments.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels exfoliate the outer layers of skin, encouraging cell turnover to reveal a new layer of healthy, smoother skin with a more even complexion. Peels range from superficial to deeper treatments, allowing customization based on the severity of hyperpigmentation and other conditions that you wish to treat simultaneously.
Microneedling
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate natural healing and collagen production. By resurfacing new skin cells, it can help fade hyperpigmentation, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of many other skin imperfections, including acne scars, fine lines, and deep wrinkles.
Facials
Professional facials designed for hyperpigmentation focus on gentle exfoliation, hydration, and brightening ingredients. Facials are typically best for mild discoloration and can be used to support and enhance the results of more advanced treatments.
What to Expect from Hyperpigmentation Treatments
A consultation with our team is necessary to determine the best option for your hyperpigmentation treatment. Dr. Paquet or one of our expert providers will examine your medical history and discuss your desired results to build a safe and effective treatment plan. Patients with darker skin tones may not be good candidates for certain laser treatments, while those with sensitive skin types may not be good candidates for chemical peels or lasers.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during hyperpigmentation procedures, with little to no downtime. Mild redness may occur in the treatment area, but it will improve within a few hours. More intensive treatments like microneedling, laser resurfacing, and deep chemical peels may result in mild swelling and/or bruising. These procedures require a short recovery time, with avoidance of strenuous activities for 1-2 days. After treatment, sun protection with broad-spectrum sunscreen is recommended to maintain results and overall healthy skin. Brightening serums with vitamin C, kojic acid, glycolic acid, retinoids, and other medical-grade ingredients can also reduce hyperpigmentation
