What are Kybella Injections?

Kybella is an injectable product intended to reduce submental fullness, or the appearance of a “double chin.” Kybella uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which works to destroy fat cells where it is injected. This effectively reduces fat in the treatment area for an improved contour and increased definition. 

Am I a Candidate for Kybella?

Most patients who have unwanted fat below the chin or in the neck area are good candidates for Kybella. Those who would typically consider neck liposuction may also consider Kybela injections for a less invasive procedure. When injected into the area under the chin, Kybella works by destroying fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body over time. This results in a gradual slimming of the area, with enhanced contour and jawline definition. Most patients require multiple sessions, typically spaced four to six weeks apart, to reach their desired result. 

Liposuction

Neck liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from beneath the chin and along the neck using a suction technique. It is typically performed under local or general anesthesia and involves small incisions to insert a cannula, a thin tube that breaks up and removes fat. This option provides immediate results, making it suitable for patients with more submental fullness or those looking for a one-time treatment. Before Your Kybella Procedure

Before undergoing Kybella treatment, you will meet with Dr. Paquet for a comprehensive consultation. During this appointment, he will evaluate your submental area, review your medical history, and discuss your cosmetic goals. This ensures that Kybella is a safe and appropriate option for you. You may be advised to avoid certain medications or supplements that increase the risk of bruising. Dr. Paquet will also provide personalized instructions to prepare you for treatment day.

The Kybella Procedure

After thoroughly cleansing the treatment area, Kybella is injected using tiny needles. This allows for a quick and comfortable procedure which can be completed in our office. Most patients receive between 20-50 injections during a single Kybella treatment session. Multiple treatment sessions are necessary to achieve ideal results. Patients may undergo up to six total Kybella injection sessions to achieve the results they are looking for, though most patients reach their goal results within 2-4 treatments. Kybella injections should be scheduled approximately 4-6 weeks apart. 

After Your Kybella Procedure

Kybella does not require downtime, but some side effects can be expected. These include swelling, redness, bruising, numbness, or pain. Side effects should subside within one to two weeks of your procedure and usually last just 2-3 days. Dr. Paquet will give you instructions for care after your injections, such as avoiding strenuous activity, alcohol consumption, or direct sun exposure. 

As the deoxycholic acid in Kybella begins to break down fat cells, results will gradually emerge. Final results are not seen until several weeks after the final injection session. Dr. Paquet can explain reasonable expectations during your consultation. Once results have taken effect, they should be permanent.
